Setting up 3rd Party Art-Net Nodes with MagicQ PC
Step 1: Set a static IP address on your PC's network adapter (Windows 11)
1. Connect your PC to the same network as the Art-Net node (usually via a wired Ethernet connection).
2. Open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
3. In the left-hand panel, click “Change adapter settings.”
4. Right-click your Ethernet adapter (the one connected to the lighting network) and choose Properties.
5. In the list, double-click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).”
6. Select “Use the following IP address” and enter:
● Set IP address as desired for example for a typical Lighting Network on 10.x.x.x IP scheme this could be: 10.0.0.15. Make sure this is unique and not clashing with any other devices on the network (e.g. the Node)
● Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
● Leave Default gateway blank (not required for a standalone lighting network).
7. Click OK, then Close.
Your PC's network adapter is now fixed at 10.0.0.15, which is the address MagicQ will use to send Art-Net.
Step 2: Match this IP in MagicQ
1. Open MagicQ and go to Setup > View Settings > Network.
2. Double-click the IP Address field.
3. Select your IP address e.g. 10.0.0.15 to match the adapter you just configured.
This ensures MagicQ transmits Art-Net from the same IP as the network port physically connected to your node.
Step 3: Enable Art-Net output
1. Go to Setup > View DMX I/O.
2. Find the output line(s) you want to use for your Art-Net node.
3. Set the line type to Art-Net.
4. Assign the Universe number to match what your Art-Net node is configured to receive (check the node's own configuration utility, display, or DIP switches for its universe setting).
- Set the Status for the Universe(s) to Enabled
Your Art-Net node should now start receiving DMX data.
Troubleshooting
If the node doesn't respond:
● Confirm the node is on the same subnet - any address between 10.0.0.1 and 10.255.255.254 with a 255.0.0.0 subnet mask.
● Confirm the node's universe number matches the universe set in MagicQ.
● Check the network cable and link light on both the PC's adapter and the node.
● Make sure no other application (e.g. another lighting console or software) is using the same IP address on the network.
