Control 10scene System GeNetix Nodes from 3rd Party Control
What this does
- Playback any of the 10 stored static scenes triggered by UDP, MIDI notes, or the 10‑Scene mobile app.
- Node can run standalone (no console required).
Prerequisites
- Scenes already sent to the node or captured from DMX input.
- Node powered and on the network (or connected to MIDI).
- Node connected via Network to MagicQ (then open NetManager) or node connected via network to a computer and a web browser webpage opened to the note IP address.
Steps
Open node settings using either MagicQ Netmanager or a web browser.
Set "10 scene external” to your protocol of choice: UDP, MIDI, or 10Scene app.
UDP (quick test)
- Set "10 scene external" → UDP.
- Note node IP (example used: 10.0.0.10).
- Send UDP text "x" (e.g., "2x") to the node IP. Numbers 0-9 map to scenes 1-10 (0X toggles scene 1 on or off).
- The scene toggles on/off.
MIDI (quick test)
- Set "10 scene external" → MIDI.
- Connect a MIDI input (USB‑MIDI cable) to the node.
- MIDI notes 0–9 map to Scenes 1–10 (note 0 → scene 1).
- Send a note from a keyboard/controller
- The scene toggles on/off.
10‑Scene app (quick test)
- Set "10 scene external" → 10‑Scene app.
- Ensure the node and phone are on the same network.
- Use the iOS/Android app to trigger scenes.
Quick verification & troubleshooting
- If nothing happens: confirm protocol selection on the node, correct the node IP (UDP), network connectivity (UDP/app), or physical MIDI connection (MIDI).
- Use simple tools: Packet Sender for UDP, a MIDI keyboard for MIDI, and the mobile app for app testing.
Video
This video provides a comprehensive guide on setting up and configuring the ChamSys GeNetix 10Scene Store, a device for storing and recalling lighting scenes.
The video highlights three primary methods for configuring the 10Scene Store:
Via DMX Input (0:20-2:58)
The simplest method involves connecting a lighting console via DMX to the 10Scene Store. The device enters programming mode when DMX input is detected, allowing users to snapshot scenes by holding a scene button for 5 seconds. Once the DMX cable is unplugged, the unit exits programming mode, and the buttons act as simple toggles for the stored scenes.
Via Network (Art-Net or sACN) (3:01-7:08)
Scenes can be sent over a network from a MagicQ or QuickQ console or MagicQ PC system. This method also puts the device into an override mode, allowing real-time control of the DMX output. The video details how to configure the IP address of the PC and MagicQ system to match the 10Scene Store's generic IP address (10.x.x.x range) and then how to send playbacks (static cues) to the device via the Net Manager in the DMX I/O setup.
Via Web Server (8:14-8:33)
The 10Scene Store has a built-in web server that can be accessed via a web browser by entering the device's IP address. This allows for configuration of scenes, fade times, IP address changes, and more.
Additionally, the video touches upon the contact trigger feature (7:08-8:04), which allows a scene to be activated by an external open/close contact trigger, useful for overrides like turning on house lights.
